William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) was een Engelse dichter, schrijver en acteur. Hij wordt gezien als een van de meest invloedrijke schrijvers allertijden. Hij groeide op en Stratford-upon-Avon, een stad in het midden van Engeland. Op zijn achttiende trouwde hij met Anne Hathaway waarmee hij drie kinderen kreeg. In april 1953 publiceerde Shakespeare zijn lang verhalende gedicht Venus and Adonis. De uitgave werd met negen herdrukken een groot succes. De bekendste toneelstukken die William Shakespeare schreef zijn Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth en King Lear. Na 1601 schreef hij steeds minder.
