Anthony Trollope

Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was born in London to a bankrupt barrister father and a mother who, as a well-known writer, supported the family. Trollope enjoyed considerable acclaim both as a novelist and as a senior civil servant in the Post Office. He published more than forty novels and many short stories that are regarded by some as among the greatest of nineteenth-century fiction.

Samenvatting

Anthony Throllope (1815-1882) was an English writer, one of the most influential writers of the Victorian Era. In his works he portrayed the most sufficient problems of his time: political, social and family issues. The author tended to follow the traditions of English humorous writers and depicted the day-to-day life of the contemporary English clergy which was a sufficient part of the English society. 'The Claverings' is a novel first published in 1866. The central figure of the story is Henry Clavering, a son of a clergyman. The young man is supposed to follow in his father's footsteps and start career in church. Nevertheless, he would rather become an engineer and eventually he manages to get a job in a firm and falls in love with a daughter of one of his employers. What does the fate have in store for this young man? Read this classical novel and you will know!
