Clive Cussler

Clive Cussler is een Amerikaanse schrijver van, voornamelijk, avonturenromans. Cussler werd geboren op 15 juli 1931 en groeide op in Alhambra, Californië. Na zijn diensttijd in Korea, waar hij dienst deed als vliegtuigtechnicus, werd hij tekstschrijver en later reclamemaker voor radio en televisie. Met zijn werk als reclamemaker won cussler diverse onderscheidingen. Halverwege de jaren zestig begon hij aan wat zijn eerste 'Dirk Pitt'-boek zou worden, Het logboek, dat uiteindelijk in 1973 zou verschijnen. De avonturen van Pitt zouden uitgroeien tot een van de succesvolste boekenseries van deze tijd. Clive Cussler is de geestelijk vader van één van de populairste actiehelden ter wereld: Dirk Pitt. Naast de Dirk Pitt-reeks schreef Cussler ook nog een tiental thrillers in de NUMA-, Sea Hunters- en Dossier Oregon-reeksen, waarbij hij samenwerkte met Craig Dirgo en Paul Kemprecos. Cussler zoekt namelijk zelf actief naar gezonken schepen vanuit het door hemzelf opgerichte en geleide NUMA. Zijn bekendste vonst is het schip de CCS Hunly, die hij in 1995 vond. Leuk weetje: Clive Cussler is groot fan en verzamelaar van oude auto's. Deze zijn te zien in het Cussler Museum in Arvada. Veel van deze oude auto's komen ook terug in avonturen van Dirk Pitt, net zoals Clive Cussler zelf ook vaak ergens in zijn eigen boeken terugkomt!
