    Ik vind het verhaal zeer bijzonder gecomponeerd. Het duurde even voor ik doorkreeg waar het nou eigenlijk over ging: een samengestelde familie vanuit verschillende gezinsleden en tijden bekeken/beschreven. "Oh, dit gaat vreselijk mis!" dacht ik eerst. Later bleek dat dan toch weer mee te vallen. Hoewel het beschreven milieu, echt Amerikaans denk ik, niet dichtbij me staat, vond ik het toch interessant en boeiend om te lezen. "Zo kan het leven gaan".
    Een ander lijntje is de schrijver die genadeloos gebruik maakt van wat hem (in vertrouwen?) verteld is. En de effecten ervan op de betrokkenen.
