"Janet Evanovich (South River, 22 april 1943) is een Amerikaans schrijfster. Ze begon haar schrijverscarrière onder de naam Steffie Hall. Onder deze naam schreef ze 3 romans: ""Hero at Large"", ""Full House"" en ""Foul Play"". Janet Evanovich werd bekend door haar Stephanie Plum thrillers, over een voormalig lingerie verkoopster uit Trenton, New Jersey, die, nadat ze haar baan verliest, een premie jager wordt. De boeken uit deze serie die uit meer dan 20 boeken bestaat zijn veelvuldig besproken in onder andere Thee New York Times, USA Today en Wall Street Journal. Bijzonder aandeze serie is dat de titels van de boeken gebaseerd zijn op nummers. Haar eerste Stephanie Plum heet bijvoorbeeld ""One for the Money"" gevolgd door nummer twee ""Two for the Dough"", nummer 3 ""Three to Get Deadly"", ""Four to score"" enzovoorts. Naast de Stephanie Plum serie schreef Evanovich ook diverse losse romans en de series Elsie Hawkins, Wicked series, The Barnaby series, de Full series met als hoofdpersonage Charlotte Huges, de Hot Series met als hoofdpersoon Leanne Banks, een serie over een personage genaamd Dorien Kelly en de Fox & O'Hare Series met personage Lee Goldberg. Ook schreef Evanovich een non-fictie boek genaamd ""How I Write"".

Evanovich's boek, ""One for the money"", won in 1994 meteen een Edgar Award voor beste Amerikaanse misdaadroman van het jaar. Daarnaast won ze nog vele prijzen met haar thrillers, als de John Creasey Award en de Silver Dagger Awards.
