Yiyun Li (1972) groeide op in Beijing en woont sinds 1996 in Californië. Haar stukken verschenen onder meer in The New Yorker en The Paris Review, en haar verhalenbundel Een heel leven later werd bekroond met verschillende literaire prijzen, waaronder de pen/Hemingway Award en de Guardian First Book Award.
