Doyle was born on May 22, 1859 at Picardy Place, Edinburgh, as the son of Charles Altamont Doyle, a civil servant in the Edinburgh Office of Works, and Mary (Foley) Doyle. Both of Doyle's parents were Roman Catholics. His father suffered from epilepsy and alcoholism and was eventually institutionalized. Charles Altamont died in an asylum in 1893. In the same year Doyle decided to finish permanently the adventures of his master detective. Because of financial problems, Doyle's mother kept a boarding house. Dr. Tsukasa Kobayashi has suspected in an article, that Doyle's mother had a long affair with Bryan Charles Waller, a lodger and a student of pathology, who had a deep impact to Conan Doyle.     In dit boek zitten alle verhalen van Sherlock Holmes bij elkaar. Het is spannend, interessant, goed geschreven en het is natuurlijk de meest legendarische detective ooit!

    Ik heb de hardcover gekocht en er nooit spijt van gekregen, niets is beter dan een Sherlock Holmes korte verhaal te lezen, zelfs een welbekend verhaal opnieuw lezen levert steeds weer nieuwe details.

    Deze editie heeft alle 56 canon kort verhalen, maar niet de 4 novels. De hardcover zou anders ook te dik worden, de 4 verhalen zijn te koop en samengebundeld in een aprte hardcover.

    Het kan niet anders dan dat de verhalen van Sherlock van een hoog niveau zijn. Ik heb ze dan ook heel graag gelezen. Het is een leuke omslag en voor zover ik weet de goedkoopste manier om al deze verhalen aan te kopen. Deze prijs brengt wel een negatiever puntje met zich mee, namelijk dat de papieren nogal dun zijn.
