The world built in The 5th Wave is fascinating, what happens during an alien invasion? What happens when the aliens are able to inhabit human bodies? It's an interesting question that the book postulates and one that allows for a world similar to ours but with key differences. For example, cars no longer work and so, Cassie must travel on foot along lonely highways with no company but abandoned automobiles. It's a bit terrifying, the thought of our world without people and technology. I also have to admit that The 5th Wave reminded me a lot of The Host by Stephanie Meyer, in the way that the Others invade and take over, only The 5th Wave is better. Stylistically, I much preferred Yancey's view of hostile takeover to Meyer's.
This book is very well-written. It asks questions such as `what makes us human?' and 'is survival worth it when all hope is lost?'. This is a book that made me think while entertaining me. I found myself tempted to dog ear a few pages as I went along, as the writing is invigorating. For example, there's a section where Cassie is questioning the existence of God to Evan. It's not overwritten, yet is still a bit philosophical.

I think if you are looking to be blown away by a science fiction book but have been apprehensive about trying them, give The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey a shot. It is exciting. It is emotional. It is compelling. It is smart. There's a lot of hype for The 5th Wave and honestly, that hype is not undeserved. Recommended for readers looking for their next young adult fix.

Ik wilde dit boek al heel lang hebben, en vooral toen ik hoorde dat de film uit kwam.
Ik ben er echt superblij mee! De cover van het boek is ook heel mooi en ik zou zeker de hardcover aanraden.
Het verhaal is heel leuk en spannend waardoor je graag wil blijven lezen. De verschillende perspectieven zijn ook leuk om te lezen en de karakters zijn mooi vormgegeven.
Zeker een aanrader! Ik kan niet wachten om de volgende twee boeken in deze trilogie te lezen.

De film doet het boek zeker geen recht aan. Ik vond het boek STUKKEN beter dan de film, dit is wel vaak het geval maar hier ontbraken er gewoon persoonlijke dingen uit het boek, wat het verhaal een beetje afdeed in de film.

Het boek is dan ook wel een tikkeltje gewelddadiger ;)

Laten we zeggen dat ik blij was dat ik het tweede boek meteen ook heb gekocht, nu enkel nog wachten op het derde boek.

Dit is absoluut mijn favoriete boek na Harry Potter. Ik had niet verwacht dit zo goed te vinden. Ik denk dat iedereen dit boek wel kan waarderen.

omg I love this book so much!! So much was happening and it was really intriguing to read! I mostly just wanted to read the main character's perspective. I loved how the plot was mainly based of her trying to save her little brother in an alian invasion, though Evan I did find kind of creepy. Evan is supposedly the love interest but he just stalks the main character and then claims to be in love with her. Cassie is kick-ass in this book tho!

Het is een zeer interessant boek. Het boek is op zo een manier geschreven dat je wil blijven lezen. Het boek Is beter dan de film. Sommige hoofstukken kunnen minder lang beschreven worden. Maar overall erg spannend en zeker een aanrader.

Dat het een mooi spannend boek is voor de jonge teener-lezer!! helemaal ook voor avontuur minnende meisjes: geen getrut over jongens en er sexy uit willen zien, maar gewoon heerlijk (sciensefiction achtig) spannend! Een educatieve aanrader voor ouders die denken dat zij hun jonge dochters alleen maar blij kunnen maken met jongens-fixatie!
