    This volume contains, among other plays, the famous "Uncle Vanja" en "The Cherry Orchard". Penguin Classics always have a good introduction and a chronology chapter which helps you to see the stories in the right context.
    I did not read anything of Chekov before, but, as I read the plays, I realized he had to be a pioneer in Russia. He is probably one of the first playwrites to write about normal people in an normal setting, with their own problems. I cannot escape the feeling either that he was a socialist in the bud, because of how he portraits the rich that have lost their money by just not paying attention on how they spent it.
    If you want to get to know Chekov, this is your book.
