Samenvatting

Andrew Lang was a British literary critic, poet, novelist, translator and historian. He was a professor of Scotland St. Andrews University. Japanese fairy tales are often full of wise and sobriety. In Japanese Fairy Tales great attention was given to the beautiful nature, which can be found only in Japan. «The language of Beasts» is a fairy tale about a shepherd who looking after his master's flock. Once this shepherd heard a hissing sound, coming out of the forest near by, which he could not account for. So he went into the wood in the direction of the noise to try to discover the cause. In the wood he found that the dry grass and leaves were on fire, and on a tree, surrounded by flames, a snake was coiled, hissing with terror. He saved the snake's life In order to replay a kindness, The King Of the Snakes gives his a talent to understand the language of beasts. How does this talent influence on his life?
